
Bears Allow Two Late Goals in 2-0 Season Opening Defeat At No. 22 Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the game
STILLWATER, Okla. – The Mercer women's soccer team dropped its season opener 2-0 on the road to No. 22 Oklahoma State Thursday night from Neal Patterson Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
The Bears were able to keep the Cowgirls off the scoresheet for 80 minutes before Oklahoma State scored twice in the final 10 minutes - both off corner kicks - to escape with a 2-0 win over the Bears.
Shots on goal were 8-4, Oklahoma State. Linidsay Bell made her 55th career start in goal for the Bears and made six saves along the way.
Three freshmen started for the Bears in defender Regan Moore, midfielder Payton Nutzman, and forward Kelsie Henton. Both Nutzman and Moore played the full 90 minutes.
Oklahoma State broke the deadlock in the 81st minute when Reganne Morris headed home a goal off a redirected header off a corner kick to put the Cowgirls up, 1-0.
Mercer pushed for the equalizer in the next few minutes, with good opportunities off a corner kick and few shots from distance but the Oklahoma State goalie held Mercer off the board.
The Cowgirls added a second goal when Preseason All-Big 12 midfielder Xcaret Pineda scored directly off a corner kick to all but seal the home opener for the Cowgirls.
