
Bears Drop Match To College Of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Mercer volleyball team closed out the College of Charleston Classic with a loss to the host team. The Bears fall to 0-3 after opening weekend of the 2025 season. Mercer put up an impressive 18 total blocks compared to the Cougars' six.
The Bears rallied back from a tough set-one loss to defeat the Cougars 25-20 in set two but College of Charleston was able to find their footing again to take the next two sets from Mercer and secure the match win. Freshman outside hitter Charlotte Thompson recorded a match-high 12 kills hitting .216. Senior setter Jessica Dunn put up 22 assists and sophomore libero Aubri Martin tallied 23 digs.
Mercer returns to Macon on Tuesday, Sept. 2 to host Kennesaw State in the 2025 season home opener. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Hawkins Arena.

| SET 2 I 25-20 | The Bears found some fire in the second set recording four kills in a row from Thompson, Emily Matias-Lopez and Joselynn Sanjurjo at the 5-3 mark. Matias-Lopez went on a four-point service run extending the lead 15-8. The Cougars battled back to put the score 20-17 but an ace and a few kills for Mercer secured the set win. | |
| SET 3 I 21-25 | Mercer carried the momentum into set three opening it up with four kills and a block to get an early 5-0 lead. The Cougars put together a few service runs to take back the momentum and earn the set-three win. | |
