HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Despite two back and forth sets, Mercer was not able to come away with a win against undefeated Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon, closing out their stay in Hattiesburg.

For the second game in a row, the Mercer offense was led by freshman outside hitter Charlotte Thompson who recorded ten kills against the Bulldogs. Avery Wilks and Olivia Elliott also added seven and five kills, respectively. Jessica Dunn and Sammi Bergjans combined for 23 assists and Aubri Martin and Bergjans both posted nine digs a piece on the afternoon.

The Bears will return to Hawkins Arena after six straight road games to host the Mercer Invitational from Sept. 18-20. The Bears will face West Georgia, North Dakota and UT Martin over the span of three days and all Mercer matches will be streamed on ESPN+.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 24-26	The Bears came out hot, taking a 3-0 lead over the Bulldogs 5-0 off of kills from Charlotte Thompson and Sydney VanCott. Mercer held the lead until the Bulldogs tied it up at the 16-16 mark. Both squads battled it out through the remainder of the set but Mississippi State was able to secure the set-win after back-to-back kills.
SET 2 I 9-25	The Bulldogs found their footing in set two, recording three straight kills taking the momentum early on. Mercer was not able to keep up with Mississippi State's electric offense when they put up seven kills in a row to pull the set out of Mercer's reach.
SET 3 I 22-25	Mercer found their fight in set three, not letting the Bulldogs take more than a three-point lead the entire set. Thompson, Wilks and Elliott all recorded multiple kills in the set helping the Bears to stay within distance of Mississippi State. The Bulldogs were able to pull away after taking the lead 23-20 to secure their eighth win of the season, remaining undefeated.
