WILMINGTON, N.C. – Despite a new career-high in saves by Henry Hampshaw, the Mercer Bears (2-6-2) fell 1-0 against UNC Wilmington (2-4-2, 2-1-0 CAA) at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday night.

Hampshaw, a sophomore goalkeeper, has been phenomenal to begin his Mercer career. The William Carey transfer has 40 saves through his first 10 matches, including a new career-best seven saves in Saturday night's loss.

Tonight's contest remained scoreless for the first 78 minutes of the match. However, Christian Acevedo came off the bench and scored in the 79th minute to give the Seahawks a late lead.

Liam Corr and Junior Casillas made up all of the Bears' shots, including Corr's strike in the 58th minute to force Trey Smiley to make a save.

The Bears return to Betts Stadium where they open conference play against No. 10 Furman (5-1-3) on Saturday, October 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
