
Bears Head To Statesboro For Eagle Classic

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer volleyball team begins a long stretch of road games this weekend as they head to Statesboro, Ga. for the Eagle Classic hosted by Georgia Southern. Mercer is still looking to snag its first win of the 2025 season as the Bears will compete against Pacific, UNC Wilmington and Georgia Southern from Sept. 5-7 in Hanner Fieldhouse.
The Bears open up play against Pacific for the first time in program history on Friday, Sept. 4, for a 3 p.m. first serve. The Tigers currently sit at 2-1 on the season with wins over California Baptist and Idaho State. The Orange & Black will return the next day to face the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington who are off to an 0-3 start after hosting the Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Classic with Lindenwood, Virginia Tech and NC Central. First serve against the Seahawks is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse. Mercer will close out play in Statesboro against the host team, Georgia Southern, on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. The Eagles are off to a hot 3-0 start after defeating North Florida, UIC and The Citadel at the North Florida Sunshine Tournament.
After four games, freshman outside hitter Charlotte Thompson currently leads the Bears offense with 27 kills (2.70/set) and following close behind is Sophia Henry with 23 kills (2.30/set) on the season. Setters Sammi Bergjans and Jessica Dunn combined for 100 assists across four games and sophomore libero Aubri Martin leads the defensive effort with 61 digs.
All matches this weekend will have livestats available and the match against Georgia Southern on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. will be streamed on ESPN+. For fans who are attending the matches in Statesboro, the link to purchase tickets is below.
