Bears Close Out Home Stand On Saturday Morning

MACON – The Mercer women's basketball team will put the finishing touches on a three-game Southern Conference home stand on Saturday morning when the Bears suit up to take on Wofford in Hawkins Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Fans unable to make the trip to Macon can still follow the action for free via a live statistics link provided by the MU athletics department. The game is also scheduled to be broadcasted live on ESPN+ with Billy Andrews and Bill Connelly calling the action.

LAST TIME OUT
Visiting Furman pulled down 19 offensive rebounds and scored 21 points off of 20 Mercer turnovers on the way to a 60-49 victory over the Bears on Thursday evening in Hawkins Arena. Stephanie Utomi came in off the bench to post her first career double-double in just 21 minutes of action. The sophomore guard turned in 14 points and 10 rebounds, while also collecting an assist and a steal. Junior Abigail Holtman chipped in a dozen points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

ABOUT MERCER
Winners in seven of their last nine outings, the Bears (12-7, 2-2 SoCon) have also captured six of their eight contests in Hawkins Arena this season as well. Mercer has registered a Southern Conference-best 14.89 free throws made per game (37^th NCAA), while also showcasing the league's second-best steals (10.1) and turnovers forced (19.21) per game tallies. Three players – seniors Ariana Bennett (11.9 ppg) and Nahawa Diarra (11.4), as well as junior Abigail Holtman (11.4) – have put up 11.4 points per game or better this season, with Diarra also pacing the squad in rebounds (5.4) and assists (1.9) as well.

SCOUTING WOFFORD
The Terriers (10-9, 4-1 SoCon) will ride a four-game win streak into Macon on Saturday, including a convincing 80-56 road win at Samford on Thursday evening. Wofford has committed a league-low 12.9 turnovers per game (23^rd NCAA) through 19 outings, and will bring the SoCon's best defensive squad into Macon as well having limited foes to sub-40 percent shooting efforts in 14 games already this season. Junior forward Queen Ikhiuwu sports a SoCon-best 14.9 points per game, while also ranking fourth among league phenoms with 7.4 rebounds an outing as well. Freshman Gabby Mundy (13.4 ppg) and junior Maddie Heiss (11.9) have combined for more than 25 points per game in 2025-26 while running the frontcourt for the Terriers.

MERCER/WOFFORD SERIES
Mercer leads the all-time series, 21-7, but the Terriers have won five of the last six matchups, including both meetings last season. Five of the last six tilts between the two sides have been decided by two possessions or less, including a 65-64 home comeback win by the Terriers in the last meeting (Feb. 22, 2025). Wofford canned a pair of free throws with seven seconds left in that outing, and then held its breath as Talia Harris's potential game-winning jumper careened off the side of the rim.

ON DECK
The Bears will open up a two-game trip on Friday when they trek to southeast Tennessee to lock horns with Southern Conference-leading Chattanooga (???) in McKenzie Arena. Start time has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
