MACON, Ga. – Mercer Women's Cross Country completed the regular season last weekend with a second-place finish at the Upstate Invite and was ranked ninth in the South Region in the latest USTFCCCA rankings.
For the first time in program history, the women's team was ranked in the South Region's top 15Â in the USTFCCCA preseason poll.
The Bears made a big jump after the Southern Showcase, where the women's team finished fourth ahead of Power Four schools such as Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Baylor and UCF, as Mercer went from 15th in the South Region rankings to eighth. Mercer held that position until this past week when they dropped to ninth after Lipscomb moved from unranked to eighth over the past two weeks.
The 2025 season marked the first time in which Mercer entered the South Region's top 15 and the 2026 season brought even greater success. The Bears' eighth-place ranking is the highest regular-season ranking the team has achieved in program history.
After a strong regular season, the women's team will travel to the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, N.C. to compete in the SoCon Championship on Oct. 31.
