
Women Place 2nd, Make History At SoCon Championship

MILL SPRING, N.C. – The Mercer women's cross country team placed second at the 2025 Southern Conference Championship for the best team finish in school history along with the men's team placing sixth. The meet took place Saturday morning at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.
Freshman Mary Grace Parker crossed the finish line first for the Bears and third place overall with a time of 17:14.2 for the best individual finish at the SoCon Championship in school history and a personal best for the freshman. Nichole Harris finished second for the Bears and 10th overall with a time of 17:53.6 and Emma James and Chiara Belfico finished just three seconds apart for 16th and 17th overall with times of 18:18.7 and 18:21.7, respectively.
Senior Jake Peters finished first for the Bears in the men's 8k with a time of 25:41.6 and 15th overall. Yianni Pothoulakis came in 20th place with a time of 25:52.3 and Buck Ledford was the 28th overall finisher with a time of 26:10.3.
Next up for the Orange & Black is the NCAA South Regional that will take place on Friday, Nov. 14 at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala.
