
Mercer Heads To High Point For Big South Opener

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's lacrosse team will play its Big South opener on Saturday against High Point from High Point, North Carolina. The game is scheduled to start at noon eastern.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will be the 11th all-time meeting between Mercer and High Point. Mercer leads the all-time series, 7-3. Mercer won both meetings last season, including a dominant 16-8 win over the Panthers in the Big South Tournament Championship game.
LAST TIME OUT
Mercer dropped its last game at home to Dartmouth, 17-8, on Monday in Macon.
Dartmouth used a strong first half to take command of the game as the Big Green led 12-2 at halftime to pick up the win. Caroline Glus led Mercer offensively with two goals.
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
High Point enters Saturday's game with a 1-7 overall record and 1-0 record in Big South play. The Panthers just picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday at Winthrop in their Big South opener.
High Point is winless at home (0-5) this season. The Panthers were unable to score more than 10 goals in any of their seven non-conference games before scoring 16 goals in their win over Winthrop on Wednesday.
High Point ranks seventh in the Big South in goals per game at 8.1 per game. Defensively, High Point has faired better, they are allowing just 12.3 goals per game which is the best mark in the Big South. High Point is averaging 10.6 caused turnovers per game and winning an average of 8.6 draw controls per game which ranks sixth in the conference.
Senior attacker Shannon Smith leads the Panthers offensively with 24 points (18G, 6A). Sophomore attacker Lily Trout is the only other Panther with 10 or more points on the season with 14 points (6G, 8A).
Junior goalie Ava Welsh has started six of the eight games in goal for High Point. She owns a .428 save percentage and a 13.4 goals against average.
