
Bears Fall On Wednesday Night To No. 20 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Despite racking up nine hits as a team, the Mercer Bears (11-2) lost for the first time in over two weeks to the No. 20 Florida State Seminoles (10-2) on Wednesday night at Dick Howser Stadium.
The Bears had everything going in the first inning. Logan Shepherd and Brant Baughcum opened the contest with base knocks, and Titan Kamaka ripped an RBI double to cash in the first run of the night. Kai Decker made quick work of the top-ranked Seminoles in the bottom half of the frame, retiring the side in order with two strikeouts. Florida State responded with 22 unanswered runs before Eli Stephens homered in his first plate appearance in over a week in the top of the sixth inning. The Bears loaded the bases in the top of the seventh and Kaleb Huffman drew a walk to plate Mercer's third run of the game. Stephens brought in another with a two-out RBI single later in the frame. Greyson Gegg tacked on the Bears' fifth run with an RBI single of his own to cap off the scoring.

The Bears return to OrthoGeorgia Park for a three-game series with Alcorn State this weekend. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. while Saturday and Sunday's games are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively. Pitching matchups are TBD.
