Baseball Begins Five-Game Road Trip With In-State Rival

MACON – After another successful weekend defending OrthoGeorgia Park, the Mercer Bears (14-2) embark on their second road trip of the season for a Tuesday night battle with in-state rival Georgia State (10-7). This week's midweek matchup marks the season finale between the two programs. Mercer won the first tilt, 8-0, on February 18 in Macon.

Notables:
- Mercer is coming off a game where they reached several memorable marks. The Bears scored 25 runs, the most in a single game since a 33-6 win over Holy Cross on March 3, 2018. As a team, Mercer drew 18 walks and got hit by seven pitches. The 18 walks was the most drawn by the Bears in a single game since at least 2016 and the hit-by-pitches is the most Mercer has been plunked since March 4, 2018 when Holy Cross hit seven Bears.
- Eli Stephens was red-hot from the plate last week. The sophomore catcher/outfielder came off the bench against then No. 20 Florida State, mashed a home run in his first plate appearance and picked up an RBI single in his second at-bat of the day. Stephens made his way back into the starting lineup for the Alcorn State series and went nuclear. Over the weekend, Stephens went 7-for-10 from the plate with seven RBI, two home runs, three walks and six runs against the Braves. The Warner Robins, Georgia, native finished the week with a 2.300 OPS, three total home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored and a .750 batting average.
- These two programs met on Wednesday, February 18 and Mercer defeated the Panthers, 8-0, at OrthoGeorgia Park. The Bears' projected starter on Tuesday night pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts against Georgia State to help maintain Mercer's shutout win last month.
- After beginning the season 7-2 including a 9-4 win over then No. 2 Georgia Tech, Georgia State has dropped five of its last eight games. Most recently, the Panthers lost two of three games against Charleston Southern this past weekend.
- LHP Joshua Evans is slated to make his second collegiate start on Tuesday night against Mercer. In his last outing, Evans gave up six runs (five earned) off four hits while only recording one out before being pulled against Belmont. Evans appeared in the Panthers last game against the Bears and hurled 1.2 innings of one-run ball with two walks and two strikeouts at OrthoGeorgia Park.
- Offensively, the Panthers are led by sophomore outfielder John Beverley. Beverley hits at a .382 clip across 16 starts for Georgia State this season. Beverley leads the Panthers with 21 hits and has three extra-base hits and seven RBI on the year.
