Bears Bested At Blazer Beach Bash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mercer beach volleyball team competed in the 2026 Blazer Beach Bash in Birmingham, Ala. over the weekend, falling to ULM, Houston Christian, Tulane and UAB.

Mercer opened up play with a 5-0 loss to ULM in a SunBelt matchup on Friday, April 10 at 8:00 a.m. Four out of the five pairs went to three sets, including a 15-12 third set in the three slot with Maddie Lee and Hollis Engel, but ULM was able to pull out the win. The Bears returned to the sand Friday afternoon to face Houston Christian at 2:00 p.m. Mercer took wins in the three spot with the duo of Engel and Lee (21-18, 15-21, 15-11) and the pair of Cyleigh Sayler and Giselle Estrada in the four slot (21-15, 21-16).

Mercer returned to the sand on Saturday, April 11 at 10 a.m. to face Tulane, falling to the Green Wave 5-0. The Bears closed out play with a rematch against UAB with the no. 2 pair of Kristi Talocka and Grace Rathburn winning their match in three sets (19-21, 21-11, 15-12) but UAB closed out their tournament with a 4-1 win over the Bears.

Mercer will play in their final set of games of the regular season at the USF Tournament in Tampa, Fla. The Bears will face Florida State, LSU, FGCU and USF at the USF Beach Volleyball Complex from April 17-18.
