Mercer Prepares For Regular Season Finale In Spartanburg

MACON – After a spring season that passed in a blink of an eye, the Mercer men's golf team is set to conclude its regular season at the Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

"The guys have spent the last week preparing and we are expecting great conditions that give us the opportunity to shoot some low scores," said head coach Jason Payne. "We have spent our whole season preparing and our expectations are to be in contention in the final round." Â
The Wofford Invitational is the Bears' sixth and final tournament of the spring season excluding the Southern Conference tournament that takes place at the end of April. Mercer is coming off a ninth-place team finish at the 20th annual Linger Longer Invitational and a 14th-place finish at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational. The Bears competed against 16 of the nation's top 50 programs across those two events.
Josemaria Gutierrez leads Mercer with a 71.22 scoring average across nine rounds since making his debut in a Bears' polo at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. Gutierrez currently has the third-best stroke average in the SoCon.
Henry Robards is the Bears' second-lowest scorer and sits fourth in the conference while averaging 71.42 strokes a round. The sophomore from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, represented Mercer in every single tournament so far this year and has two top-five finishes this year.
