
Men’s Golf Tied For Seventh After Day One At Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer Bears drained 14 birdie putts and carded two eagles in the first round of the Wofford Invitational and day one of the 54-hole event tied for seventh of 13 teams at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
"The first half of the day we played pretty well and made some birdie putts," said head coach Jason Payne. "On the back half of the round, we had a few miscues that cost us and moved us down the leaderboard. There's still 36 holes to go and plenty of chances to grind out a win."
The Bears opened their rounds on Hole 10 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and carded a combined eight birdies and two eagles on the back nine. On the front nine, Mercer littered the scorecard with 11 bogeys and one double bogey and ended the round three over par as a unit.
Henry Robards led the way for the orange and black and ended the opening round tied for 18th individually. The sophomore from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, birdied six of his first eleven holes and leads the field in total birdies.
