Robards Moves Into Top Ten, Bears Tied For Fifth At Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Henry Robards jumped eleven spots in the rankings and led the Mercer men's golf team as the Bears improved by two spots in the standings on day two of the Wofford Invitational.

"We started out well today on the tougher of the nines," said head coach Jason Payne. "We had a few mishaps that cost us as we made the turn, but we executed on the back nine and moved up a couple of spots on the leaderboard. We have to put it all together and execute throughout the entire 18 if we want any chance of lifting the trophy at the end."

Unlike round one, Mercer began its round on the front nine. During the opening round of the event, the Bears posted 14 bogeys and one double bogey on this set of holes. In Monday's round, Mercer worked its way through the opening nine holes and made the turn at four under on the day as a unit.

On the back nine, the Bears took advantage of the better conditions and drained eight birdie putts with only five blemishes on the scorecard. Henry Robards led Mercer with a bogey-free back nine to jump into seventh place individually. The sophomore from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, carded three birdies on the day with only two bogeys in the front nine and posted a one-under 70.

Nathan Trodd began his day with his second eagle of the tournament on the opening hole. The senior made the turn at even par before a double bogey on 11. Trodd recovered with two birdies on holes 15 and 16 to finish the round with an even 71.
