Robards Finishes Fourth, Bears Drop To Seventh At Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Henry Robards finished as one of just two individuals to shoot in the red all three rounds and secured a top five finish by shooting three under at the Wofford Invitational.
"Windy conditions and some challenging pin locations got the better of us today," said head coach Jason Payne. "Henry gave us a solid round, but we needed more production from the bottom of our lineup. Overall, there are plenty of positives that we can take away and build on as we prepare for the conference tournament."
As a team, the Bears shot 10 over par and dropped two spots in the standings on day three of the Wofford Invitational. Mercer climbed into fifth place with plenty of red numbers in the second round of the event but finished seventh of 13 teams after 54 holes.
Robards carded three consecutive rounds of one-under 70s and finished tied with the most birdie putts made at 15. The sophomore from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida maintained the second-best stroke average on all Par 4s at 3.97.
Mercer remains idle until the Southern Conference championship tournament on April 27. The three-day event is scheduled to take place at the Solina Golf Club in Columbia, South Carolina.
