
Lambert’s Dominant Night Commands Bears To Blowout Win

MACON – Garrett Lambert tied his career high of nine strikeouts for the third time this season and led the Mercer Bears (26-12, 4-5 SoCon) to a demanding 9-1 win over the Towson Tigers (15-20, 4-14 CAA) on Friday night.
Decisive Plays:
Lambert immediately settled in and struck out the top of the order in just 11 pitches and set the tone early in the first inning. Eli Stephens continued the momentum in the home half of the frame with a two-run home run (11). After a lead-off double by Towson that began the second inning, Lambert struck out the next three Tigers he faced in 15 pitches. Braydon Kersey launched the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the inning over the right-field wall for a solo home run (15). Logan Shepherd tacked on the Bears' second run of the frame with an RBI double (10). Kersey rifled a single through the infield and forced a fielding error by Towson's right fielder that allowed two runs to score and Kersey advance to third in the bottom of the third inning. The next pitch, Dylan LaPointe mashed a two-run home run (7) 425 feet and gave the Bears an 8-0 advantage. Lambert picked up two more strikeouts in the top of the fourth and Chris Katz blasted a solo home run (10) in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-0. The Tigers scored their only run of the game by drawing a walk with the bases loaded in the seventh. Dalton Biggs entered the game and retired the next two batters in just four pitches and stranded the bases loaded. Biggs hurled two more efficient innings and struck out three batters to cap off a 9-1 win for Mercer.
