MACON, Ga. – A pair of eighth-inning home runs by Titan Kamaka and Brant Baughcum gave the Mercer Bears (28-12, 4-5 SoCon) the surge they needed to sweep the Towson Tigers (15-22, 4-14 CAA) on Sunday afternoon at OrthoGeorgia Park.
Decisive Plays:
Eli Stephens kick-started the back-and-forth battle with a three-run home run (12) on the bottom of the third inning. Towson responded with two unearned runs in the top of the fourth. The Tigers capitalized on Mercer's third fielding error of the day and tied the game in the fifth inning. Kaleb Huffman pushed the Bears back in front after he was plunked by a pitch with the bases loaded in the home half of the frame. Towson tied it once again in the top of the sixth with an RBI single before Chriz Katz mashed a solo home run (12) and Brant Baughcum rifled an RBI single of his own through the infield to give Mercer a two-run lead in the bottom of the inning. The Tigers made it a brand-new ballgame with one swing of the bat when Brian Heckelman hit his eighth home run of the year in the top of the seventh. Collin Ewaldsen settled in and shut down Towson in the eighth which allowed Titan Kamaka and Baughcum to go back-to-back and give the Bears a late lead. Braydon Kersey delivered the final blow with a near-perfect inning in the top of the ninth which allowed him to earn his fourth save of the season.
