
Bats Explode As Bears Batter Hornets

MACON – A Titan Kamaka grand slam (1) sparked the Mercer Bears' (29-12, 4-5 SoCon) offense that racked up 12 runs off 15 hits in a midweek blowout win over the Alabama State Hornets (20-19, 12-8 SWAC) at OrthoGeorgia Park on Tuesday night.
Decisive Plays:
The Hornets captured the first lead of the game in the opening inning with an RBI double by Niguel Jenkins. Kamaka flipped the script with his fifth home run of the season and his first collegiate grand slam as the Bears took a 4-1 lead. Ethan Buffone poked a single out to left field for his first collegiate RBI and Braydon Kersey scored off a wild pitch to end the first inning. Dylan LaPointe laced a single up the middle to tack on another run and Buffone deposited his second RBI base knock of the night to give Mercer a 8-1 lead after the first two innings. The two teams traded two runs apiece in the third inning with the Bears rattling off five straight hits to begin the home half of the frame. Buffone snagged his third RBI of the night with his third base hit to push Mercer's lead to nine runs. The score remained 12-4 until the bottom of the seventh inning when Kersey dropped a base hit into left field that allowed Devyn McEachron to touch home. A few batters later, Nathan Rowland legged out an infield RBI single to secure the run-rule win.
