MACON – As baseball season enters the final stretch, the red-hot Mercer Bears (32-12, 7-5 SoCon) welcome in-state rival Georgia Southern (12-31, 5-16 Sun Belt) for the Bears' final midweek matchup of the season at OrthoGeorgia Park this Wednesday.

Notables:

After snapping their longest losing streak of the season (four games) on April 17, the Bears have won seven straight while outscoring their opponents 64-32. During that stretch, Mercer's offense racked up 77 total hits and 60 RBI, drew 49 walks, blasted 17 home runs, ripped 13 doubles and legged three triples. The Bears' pitching staff maintained a 3.38 ERA with 60 strikeouts and a 1.20 WHIP in 64.0 innings.
Chris Katz played a major part in Mercer's success last week. The senior outfielder finished the week with a .400 batting average and a 1.410 OPS in four starts and 15 at-bats. Katz mashed a grand slam and ripped a walk-off double in the Bears' series-opening win over Wofford and followed it up with a three-run home run that powered Mercer to a series win against the Terriers the following day.
Reid Fagerstrom shoved in a variety of ways for the Bears. The senior from Newnan, Georgia, threw a pre-determined two innings and earned his fourth win of the season against Alabama State. Fagerstrom threw 4.2 total innings across three appearances with seven strikeouts and limited opposing batters to a .125 average against him.

Scouting the Eagles:

Georgia Southern has two midweeks this week beginning with a game against Charleston Southern tonight at home. The Eagles are currently on a 10-game losing streak with their last win coming on April 10 against South Alabama. Georgia Southern is 3-7 in midweeks this season with a 6-1 win over then No. 11 Clemson at SRP Park in Augusta, South Carolina.
The Eagles' pitching staff has a combined 8.89 ERA with 362 earned runs allowed over 366.1 innings. Brady Pendley leads the team with 17 appearances, 50 strikeouts and 49.0 innings.
James McCoy and Brady Christman lead Georgia Southern offensively. McCoy has a team-leading .370 batting average across 165 at-bats with 16 doubles, nine home runs, 35 RBI and 104 total bases. Christman has an 1.140 OPS with nine home runs and 28 RBI in 98 at-bats.
