Robards, Bears End Day One Of National Golf Invitational In Fifth

MARICOPA, Ariz. – A bogey-free 67 for Henry Robards and three Bears shooting a one-under 71 led to both Robards and Mercer ending the first round of the National Golf Invitational in fifth place at the Ak-Chin Sand Dunes Golf Club.
The sophomore from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, carded a spotless round with five made birdie putts including three on the front nine. Robards entered this tournament as the Southern Conference's fourth-best scorer and the SoCon championship individual runner-up.
Nathan Trodd, Cole Hanson and Josemaria Gutierrez all shot one under par. As a team, the Bears lead the field in total pars.
