TROY, Ala. – Mercer Volleyball dropped their first match of the 2026 season on Friday to the Troy Trojans in three sets.

The Bears (0-1) fought back after a tough first set but couldn't overcome Troy in the second set and the Trojans carried that momentum to sweep Mercer in the opening match of the Troy Invitational. Mercer did a decent job of keeping plays alive, but couldn't capitalize on Troy's numerous mistakes, including 17 service errors and eight attack errors, as Mercer posted just a .013 hitting percentage.

The Orange and Black look to bounce back on Saturday as they face the Alabama State Hornets at 1 p.m. ET in Trojan Arena.

MATCH REPLAY (TROY)
SET 1 I 13-25	The Bears kept it close early in the first set, as both teams were tied through the first five points, but Troy took control of the game, earning eight of the next nine points to make it 13-6. Mercer attempted to close the gap, but the Trojans shut the door to earn a 25-13 set win.
SET 2 I 21-25	Mercer took an early 3-2 lead in the second set, but Troy rallied off the next four points to take a 6-4 lead. The Bears and Trojans fought back and forth with Troy holding a 16-13 edge. The Orange and Black earned the next three points to tie up the set at 16 each, but Troy took control for the remainder of the set to win 25-21.
SET 3 I 9-25	The Trojans earned 16 of the first 17 points in the final set. The Bears went toe-to-toe with Troy for the remainder of the set as both teams earned eight points before the Trojans sealed the match with a 25-9 final set score.
