Mercer Cross Country Opens Season at MGA/Julius Johnson Invitational

MACONÂ - The Mercer men's and women's cross country teams will host the fifth annual MGA/Julius Johnson Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course in Macon, Ga., to open the 2026Â season.
In the 2025 MGA/Julius Johnson Invitational, the men's team took the top five places while the women's team had six runners in the top 10 en route to both teams taking home their respective titles.
Seven members of the men's cross country team will make their collegiate debuts this weekend, including Andrew Jacknewitz, Hanniel Soosaidas, Om Jagtap, Ryan Judy, Brody Boerboom, Christopher Cerwinka, and Angus Brown.
On the women's side, Alayna Carter is set to make her collegiate debut, while Ania San Roman Lopez will run her first race in the Orange and Black.
The women's team has high expectations this season after being ranked second in the conference and 15th in the region. The men's team will look to exceed expectations with many newcomers looking to make their mark on the 2026 season.
The Julius Johnson Invitational is held in tribute to Julius C. Johnson Jr., who graduated from Mercer in 1950 and was a member of the track and field team. Both squads hope to follow in the footsteps of last year's team and win both team titles.
The meet will open at 8 a.m. with the men's 6K and will close out with the women's 5K at 9 a.m.Â
Teams Competing: Mercer, Albany State, Brewton-Parker, Clark Atlanta, Clayton State, Columbus State, Georgia College, Georgia Highlands College, GSU - East Georgia, Middle Georgia State, Morehouse, and Tuskegee
