Jake Long was named the volunteer assistant coach by head coachCraig Gibson on October 7, 2013.
Long comes to Mercer from Mississippi Gulf Coast CommunityCollege where he served as an assistant coach and recruitingcoordinator for three seasons. While at MGCCC, Long helped theBulldogs to an 81-64 overall record and a pair of MACJC StateTournament appearances.
Long was involved in all facets of the MGCCC baseball programincluding managing players’ class schedules, implementing ateam study hall program and coordinating team travel and meals.
In addition to his responsibilities at MGCCC, Long also justcompleted his first season as the head coach of the Marion Bobcats,who are a member of the Ohio Valley Summer Collegiate League. Longsecured housing and host families for all players and was in-chargeof assembling his roster which he completed by recruiting playersfrom 10 states across the country.
Prior to his stint at MGCCC, Long was a team manager for thebaseball program at the University of Alabama. While at Alabama,Long assisted with team travel and team meals and helped manageequipment and field operations.
Long graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree inHuman Environmental Science in 2010 and later earned amaster’s in Human Environmental Sciences in 2012.
