Tre Lamb begins his third season as quarterbacks coach for the Mercer University football program in 2016. He assumed the role of passing game coordinator prior to the 2016 season as well.
The Bears offense was led by strong quarterback play from John Russ in the 2015 season. The signal caller threw for 2,141 yards and 18 touchdows while posting a Southern Conference best three interceptions on the year. Russ ranked second in the league in quarterback efficiency with a rating of 138.1.
Lamb took over the development of the Bears’ quarterbacks in 2014, as the program transitioned to the Southern Conference. Since that time he has been instrumental in the success of CFPA FCS Offensive Player of the Year Watch List performer Russ.
Under Lamb’s guidance, Russ set a program record with 2,167 yards passing in 2014, while ranking 13th in the FCS in passing efficiency and third in yards per completion. The sophomore quarterback eclipsed 200 yards of total offense in seven of the Bears’ 12 games, helping the team rank second in the league in scoring with 32.5 points per game.
He comes to Mercer from Tennessee Tech, where he worked with the Golden Eagles’ quarterbacks as an assistant coach on Watson Brown’s staff. During his time at TTU, he helped oversee the development of the team’s quarterback platoon of Jared Davis and Darian Stone.
A former starting quarterback himself for Tennessee Tech, Lamb passed for 5,301 yards with 54 total touchdowns over the course of his career. A two-time winner of the team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player award, he currently ranks third on Tech’s all-time list for both passing yards and total offense.
Lamb led the 2011 Golden Eagle squad to the Ohio Valley Conference championship, the team’s first in 36 years. During the team’s title run, he led an offense that set nine school records including the single-season marks for points scored (355), highest scoring average (32.3 points per game), and most first downs in a season (238). A winner of the Robert Hill Johnson Award, Lamb also set three individual school records, claiming the top spot for single-game attempts and completions and the singe-season mark for total offense with 2,555 in 2011.
A 2012 graduate of Tennessee Tech, Lamb and his wife, Carter, were married in July 2015.
