A graduate of one of the nation’s top journalism schools with previous professional experience at both the NCAA Division I and junior college levels, Brian Magnus begins his fourth year at Mercer in 2025-26 as assistant athletic communications director for the Bears. He is charged with the day-to-day athletic communications responsibilities for the women’s soccer, men's basketball, women’s golf, women’s lacrosse and women’s tennis teams.
Magnus moved to middle Georgia from Southwest Virginia Community College where he spent the 2021-22 athletic season as the sports information director for the Flying Eagles. While in Cedar Bluff, Va., he was responsible for the sports information duties for all 17 of SWCC’s varsity athletic teams, while also serving as game day administrator as well. He also had accountability for photography, video production and social media efforts in southwest Virginia as well.
Prior to his time in Virginia, the Pittsburgh, Pa., native worked two seasons (2018-20) as a social media intern in the Penn State athletics department where he assisted with content creation, while also facilitating in-game social media and digital initiatives. He was also given statistician duties with the Nittany Lions, and took the lead on a handful of archival projects.
Magnus earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Penn State in 2020. He was also awarded a certificate in sports journalism.
