Bears Sign Poston to National Letter of Intent

MACON, Ga. – The 2011-12 season tip-off may be just around the corner, but Mercer University men's basketball head coach Bob Hoffman today announced the first piece of the puzzle for 2012-13, by inking Dylan Poston to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bears. Poston is a 6'4, 165-lb., senior guard at Faith Baptist School in Tampa, Fla., where he will graduate in May of 2012.
Poston attended North Myrtle Beach High School his first three prep seasons before transferring to Faith Baptist this season.
“We are extremely pleased to have Dylan select Mercer to continue his basketball career,” Hoffman said. “His basketball credentials speak for themselves. He is a proven scorer, who can also rebound and distribute the ball. As good as he is on the court, he is a quality individual and is also a solid student. He very much fits the mold of the type of player we want as a part of our program.”
Poston was a three-year starter at NMBHS. As a junior, he earned first team all-state honors from the Coastal Basketball Coaches Association. He was twice named all-region (first team as a junior and second team as a sophomore), while also picking up all-county accolades as a junior. Last season, he averaged 16.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game and shot better than 80-percent from the free throw line, to earn boys basketball “Player of the Year” honors from The Sun News.
Poston is the son of Rick and Kim Poston. He has an older brother, Josh, who played college basketball at both USC Aiken and Coker University, and a younger sister, Madison. His father is a former assistant high school basketball coach.
“Dylan is a combo guard with deep range,” said Faith Baptist head coach Ryan Pannone. “He is a tough, hard-nosed competitor that is willing to do whatever is takes to help his team win. Dylan is a self-made player. His dedication and relentless work ethic have turned him into a 'Player of the Year' winner and a coveted Division I basketball player. Throughout his career, he has out-worked players that were more talented to earn his success. His desire to be successful will produce results throughout his college career and into his professional business life.”
Poston selected Mercer over offers from Campbell, Georgia Southern, UT-Chattanooga, Gardner-Webb, Buffalo, American, and Jacksonville.
Poston is expected to major in education at Mercer.
