Women's Golf Finishes Seventh in Hawaii

KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Sophomore Lacey Fears carded a 1-under 71 on the final day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, helping the Bears take a seventh place finish at the event. Mercer's 296 was the third-best team score Wednesday and gave the team a tournament total of 909, just four strokes behind Brigham Young for sixth place.
No. 1 UCLA shot 283 on Wednesday, wrapping up its tournament title with a team score of 849 (-15). Washington was next closest, finishing 20 strokes behind the Bruins and taking second place.
Stanford (883), Florida International (892) and San Jose State (904) rounded out the top-five.
Mercer sophomore Kimmy Graff took the team's best individual finish, placing in a tie for 24th overall with a three-round total of 227. Graff shot a 76 on Wednesday.
Sophomore Mary Alice Murphy signed for a 74 on Wednesday and tied for 27th overall. Murphy's 54-hole total of 227 equaled the effort of four others at the event.
Junior Aurelie Wiriath had her best day in the final round of the tournament, booking a 1-over 73 on Wednesday. Wiriath's 73 came in conjunction with an 80 and a 77 in the first two rounds to place her in a tie for 32nd overall.
Freshman Sarah Louie Brown used 77 strokes on Wednesday and finished tied for 37th with a tournament score of 232.
Fears was disqualified in the first round and was not slotted on the individual leaderboard.
The Rainbow Wahine concluded Mercer's fall schedule. The Bears now endure a three month hiatus before returning to action at the Jacksonville Invitational on Feb. 5-7.
