Men's Golf Slips to 11th at Linger Longer Invitational

GREENSBORO, Ga. – In Monday's second round of the Linger Longer Invitational, the Mercer men's golf team shot 307 and slipped to 11^th place in the team standings. After 36 holes of play at Great Waters Golf Course, the Bears' cumulative score of 607 places the team six shots behind Jacksonville for 10^th place.

No. 4 Alabama leads the field with a two-day total of 562 while No. 49 Chattanooga is slotted second with a score of 573. No.1 5 Stanford trails Chattanooga by two strokes while No. 13 Georgia (580) and Florida State (584) occupy fourth and fifth place.

"Not a very good day for our program," Mercer head coach Andrew Tredway said. "We have a lot higher expectations as coaches and we need to do better."

Competing as an individual, freshman Hans Reimers battled his way to a 74 in the second round, marking Mercer's best effort on the day. Reimers' 74 was a three stroke improvement on his opening round score and positioned him in a tie for 39^th place.

Both junior Josh Cone and freshman Mookie DeMoss carded 76's on Monday to lead the team participants. Cone's 36-hole score of 148 ties him for 21^st place while DeMoss' tournament tally moved to 150 and slots him tied for 30^th.

Sophomore Matt Kocolowski took 77 swings in the second round and is tied for 56^th place overall (155) while junior John Gregory Joseph needed 78 shots to complete the second round. Joseph (154) is tied for 54^th place on the player leaderboard.

Sophomore Thomas Holmes rounded out Mercer's participants with a 79 on Monday. Holmes two-day total of 157 has him tied for 64^th place overall.

Like Reimers, freshman James Beale competed in Monday's second round as an individual. Beale signed for an 82 and is 69^th on the player leaderboard.

Entering Tuesday's final round, Mercer holds a four-shot lead on Furman and a ten shot lead on Appalachian State. The final 18 holes of competition begin Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
