Women's Golf Completes Round Two of A-Sun Championship

DELAND, Fla. – On the second day of the 2011 Atlantic Sun Women's Golf Championship, Mercer posted a team score of 315 and entered the clubhouse sixth among the ten-team field. Sophomore Kaitlin Marrin fired the team's low round Tuesday, a four-over 76.
Mercer's Tuesday effort brought its tournament score to 615, just one shot behind Florida Gulf Coast for fifth place. Campbell leads the tournament with a score of 600 while Kennesaw State trails the Camels by two strokes.
Stetson and East Tennessee State tied for the second day in a row, each booking mirroring scores of 305. Entering Wednesday's final round, the Hatters and Lady Buccaneers are tied for third with tournament totals of 603.
Mercer holds a healthy 15-shot lead on both Belmont and Jacksonville.
"Today all the scores were a little higher because the course was set up tougher," Mercer head coach Gary Guyer said. "I think today we showed a bit of inexperience when being in a position to win a major tournament. Yesterday we battled back when we had adversity and today we didn't.
After leading the field with a two-under 70 on Monday, Mercer sophomore Kimmy Graff used 79 shots on Tuesday. Graff's 36-hole total of 149 slots her in seventh place entering Wednesday.
In her final eight holes of the day, Marrin collected six pars and two birdies. Marrin's 76 marked the sophomore's career best 18-hole total in postseason play and moved her into a tie for 26th place overall.
"Kaitlin Marrin had a fine round today," Guyer said. "She is the hardest worker on team. Today she made an adjustment in her game plan and really played smart golf. Only way to get better is to get smarter and she displayed that."
Freshman Lacey Fears is tied for 22nd place individually after carding an 81 on Tuesday. Her classmate, Mary Alice Murphy, fired an 82 and is tied for 26th place overall.
Sophomore Aurelie Wiriath played even-par golf over her final 11 holes and submitted a score of 79. Wiriath will begin Wednesday's place tied for 38th in the individual standings.
Wednesday's final round action tees off at 8 a.m. Wiriath is slated to start first for Mercer at 8:40 a.m.
