Mercer Yields Late Goal in 2-1 Loss at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Mercer men's soccer team dropped its first Atlantic Sun Conference match of the 2012 campaign after falling 2-1 at Jacksonville on Saturday evening at the Ashley Sports Complex.
Mercer (9-5-1, 4-1-0 A-Sun) out-shot Jacksonville (3-11-1, 2-4 A-Sun) 26-10 and held a superior 11-0 advantage in corner kicks, but lost for just the third time in its last 13 games.
Despite Mercer holding a 10-5 advantage in shots in the first half, it would be Jacksonville who took an early lead. Sophomore Matheus Saroli fired a shot from 25 yards out that beat Mercer goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh inside the far post to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute of play.
The Orange and Black continued to press down a goal and their aggressive style eventually paid off in the 78th minute. Junior Ryan King ripped a shot on net that was blocked, but the rebound came right to sophomore Carl-Oscar Andersson who slid a shot in goal to tie the game up at 1-1.
The Dolphins came right back, however, re-taking the lead for good just 34 seconds later. Freshman Rene Reyes ran up the left side of the field and let loose a shot that beat Ranjitsingh and sealed the win for the Dolphins.
Ranjitsingh made three saves in the contest while Jacksonville goalkeeper Gavin Carlin made six saves to pick up the win.
Mercer returns to the field of play on October 25 when it hosts Northern Kentucky. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bear Field.
