MACON, Ga. – Mercer's tennis teams had the weekend off and are all set for Tuesday's midweek non-conference match against the visiting Jacksonville St. Gamecocks.
Tuesday's match begins at 1:30 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center on Mercer's Macon campus.
The Mercer men's team has gotten out to a slow start, going 1-3 early on. The Bears have been off for a little over two weeks, since last losing to the College of Charleston, 7-0 on February 4. Junior Peter Tauchner and freshman Vincent DeLise are each 2-2 on the season with wins over Alabama St. and Georgia Southern.
Last season the men defeated Jacksonville St. 4-3 in Jacksonville, Ala. MU's Tauchner, David Barton and Evandro Rosindo pulled out singles wins and the Bears took all three doubles matches for the overall victory.
On the women's side, Mercer sophomore Lucie Payrat, has so far led the Bears this season and will be putting her three-match win streak on the line versus JSU. Payrat tops the MU team with a 3-0 overall singles record, and has a 2-1 overall record with doubles partner Jennifer Lada.
The women's team fell last season to JSU 4-3 with returners Payrat and Sarah Hanna pulling out two of the Bears three singles wins.
