
Men's and Women's Tennis Down Alabama St.

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Mercer men's and women's tennis teams both captured dominate 7-0 victories over Alabama St. in non-conference action on Friday afternoon, in a match played in Columbus, Ga.
The men picked up their first duel victory of the season after dropping their first two matches to start the year. The women finally got the spring schedule underway as the team had its first two matches delayed due to weather and other scheduling difficulties.
Mercer men's No. 1 singles player Peter Tauchner was the only player pushed to three sets on the day, defeating his opponent 7-6(7-3), 3-6, 6-3 in a tough-fought match. In the other five singles matches, Mercer allowed just eight games to the Hornets with Victor Dias, Elbert Beekman, and Sam Yates picking up 6-0, 6-0 straight-set wins.
The women faired even better against Alabama St. Mercer's singles players gave up just one game in the six matches with senior Jennifer Lada downing ASU 6-0, 6-1. The Bears also picked up the doubles point in impressive fashion taking 5-0, 8-0, 8-0 wins to give the Bears a nice start to the 2012 spring season.
The men get back to action again today, welcoming in the College of Charleston for a noon matchup at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center in Macon. The women are also back in action this Sunday as Georgia Southern heads to Macon for a 1 p.m. in-state duel.
