NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Mercer softball team finished game one of Saturday's doubleheader at the Tennessee St. Tiger Classic defeating St. Bonaventure 8-0 in five innings.
Game two against Ohio St. scheduled for a 7 p.m. start, was cancelled after a lightening delay caused the Belmont versus Mississippi Valley St. game to end after 10 p.m. eastern. The game will not be made up upon latest reports.
GAME ONE
In game one, after a scoreless first inning the Bears opened the contest up with a four-run bottom of the second inning. Sophomore Krista Kennedy, freshman Molly Garmany and senior Kristin Marko each had RBI doubles in the frame to stake Mercer to an early 4-0 lead.
That would be all the run support Orange and Black starter Kassie Bailey needed as she made quick work of the St. Bonaventure line-up. The Evans, Ga. native allowed no runs and surrendered just two hits in four innings pitched to pick up her fourth win of the season.
The Bears forced a five-inning run rule result after scoring three more runs in the fourth and an RBI double by senior Lilli Luke in the bottom of the fifth made the score 8-0.
Marko paced the offensive surge in game one with two hits and three RBI while sophomore McKenzie Woody chipped in with two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases in the win.
