Bears Continue Road Trip At Chattanooga on Friday, Saturday

MACON – The Mercer softball team will resume its 5-game road trip this weekend when the Bears head to southeast Tennessee to take on Southern Conference rival Chattanooga in a 3-game series at Frost Stadium. The sides will square off in a series-opening doubleheader on Good Friday at 1 p.m., and will close out the weekend set with a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Fans unable to make the trip to Chattanooga, Tenn., can still follow all of the action for free via live statistics links provided by the UTC athletics department. All three games are also scheduled to be broadcast live on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Georgia Tech pounded out four hits and scored a quartet of runs in the first inning alone and then hit cruise control after that on the way to an abbreviated 15-2 victory over visiting Mercer on Wednesday evening at Shirley Clements Mewborn Field in downtown Atlanta.

ABOUT MERCER
The Bears (15-18, 3-3 SoCon) have posted their most home wins (15) in eight years, but are still searching for their first win away from Macon this season … Mercer picked up its second weekend series win of the season, while also evening up its Southern Conference record, with victories in the last two contests with visiting Wofford last weekend at Sikes Field … The Bears have already registered 37 home runs (1.2/game) in 2026, and have tallied at least one home run in 21 outings this season (multiple homers in eight games) … Junior Olivia Lenzen shows a team-leading .405 batting average this season, and has hit 7-for-11 (.636) with three home runs and seven RBI in her last four starts behind the plate … Two other Bears have maintained a .320 batting clip or better, including preseason all-conference selection Grace Jones (.330).

SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
The Mocs (13-20-1, 1-5 SoCon) put a stop to a four-game losing streak with an extra-innings victory over Georgia State on Tuesday at home … UTC rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to push the game into extra frames, and then used a 2-run double in the bottom of the eighth to ice the outcome … Chattanooga carries the 8-team Southern Conference's third-best on-base percentage (.378), but is mustering just 4.7 runs per game while carrying a 5.35 team earned run average … Two players – Emery Bales (84.2 innings pitched) and Taylor Long (82.1) – have handled a bulk of the pitching load for UTC in 2026, with Long boasting a SoCon-best 8.8 strikeouts/7 innings and the league's third-highest strikeout total (103) … Offensively, four Mocs tote batting averages at or above .315, including senior Baileigh Pitts who carries a .356 batting average to go along with a dozen extra-base hits and 20 RBI.

MERCER/CHATTANOOGA SERIES
Chattanooga leads a tightly-contest series, 36-33, but Mercer will ride a two-game series winning skein into the weekend after besting the Mocs twice in the championship round of the 2025 Southern Conference Tournament in Spartanburg, S.C. The Bears dropped both games (series finale rained out) of the regular season series last season, but won the bookends of a weekend set on their last trip to Chattanooga in 2024.

ON DECK
The Bears will close out a 5-game road trip on Wednesday when they make the short hop over to Statesboro to rematch with Georgia Southern (16-18) in a 6 p.m. contest at the GS Softball Complex.
