
Volleyball Falls at Furman, 3-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Senior Caroline Carlton hammered down 11 kills on 20 attempts Saturday afternoon in the Mercer volleyball team's 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 26-24) loss to Furman.
The Bears slipped to 10-18 (5-9 SoCon) with the defeat while Furman stayed atop the league standings and moved to 19-6 (12-2 SoCon).
Carlton's .500 hitting percentage featured only a single error and came in conjunction with a block-assist and a dig. Freshman Emily Krogman also reached double-figure kills, contributing 10 with just two errors on 19 attempts.
Freshman Claire Walizcek and sophomore Hannah Noon combined for 32 assists and eight digs in the outing. Sophomore Tori Penrod finished with a team-high nine digs.
Furman's league-leading offense was firing on all cylinders, hitting .454 in the victory. The hosts led 12-6 in the first set and 12-4 in the second set, and each time Mercer was unable to regain the advantage.
Mercer flipped the script in the third set, going up 16-8 while trying to extend the match. The squad would ultimately have three shots at set point, but the Paladins scored five-straight times to take a 26-24 match-clinching win.
The Bears close out the regular season at home next weekend, hosting ETSU and Western Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.
