MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced its 2013-14 men's basketball postseason awards on Monday, with senior Langston Hall earning A-Sun Player of the Year, senior Daniel Coursey earning A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year and Bob Hoffman taking home A-Sun Coach of the Year honors.
Mercer's domination of the specialty awards comes after the Bears completed the regular season with a 23-8 (14-4 A-Sun) record to capture a share of A-Sun regular season title. Hall was also named an All-Conference first team selection.
Hoffman takes Coach of the Year honors for the second-straight season after leading the Bears to the program's third regular season conference championship. Under Hoffman's watch, Mercer outscored conference opponents by an average of 13.3 points per game in 2013-14.
Hall earned All-Conference recognition for the fourth time in his career and landed a first team spot for the second time. His selection as the league's Player of the Year gives Mercer the conference's top player award for the first time since 1993, when Kenny Brown garnered the honor.
During the regular season, Hall led the league in assists per game (5.5) and free throw percentage (86.5%) while also ranking second in steals per game (1.5), third in 3-pointers made per game (2.5), third in assist-to-turnover ratio (+2.4), and sixth in scoring average (14.9). The senior was named conference player of the week twice, while scoring 20 or more 10 times and dishing 10 or more assists three times.
Entering Tuesday's A-Sun Tournament opener, Hall is just 10 assists shy of setting the conference record for career assists. In Mercer's last two games, Hall scored his 1,500th career point (Feb. 27) and dished his 600th career assist (March 1).
Coursey's first career postseason accolade comes on the heels of a regular season that saw the Savannah native lead the conference in blocks per game (2.0) and ranks sixth among league players with 6.7 rebounds per game. Coursey is also the defensive anchor of Mercer's A-Sun leading defense that allowed just 66.4 points per game this season.
On Jan. 23, Coursey broke the program record for blocks and currently ranks fourth in A-Sun history with 194 career rejections.
Hall, Coursey and Hoffman will lead the No. 2 seeded Bears against No. 7 Jacksonville in the first round of the A-Sun tournament on Tuesday night. Tipoff at Hawkins Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
