
Women's Lacrosse Drops 15-7 Decision to Paladins

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Mercer women's lacrosse team fell to Furman, 15-7, on Saturday afternoon at Paladin Stadium.
Kate Leone led the Bears with a season-high-tying four goals, while Erica Coyne, Lindsey Zeltwanger and Holly Berns each added a goal of their own. Additionally, Zeltwanger, Hannah Bair, Kate Christian and Audrey Allen all had assists for the Orange and Black.
Fiona Stockton led Mercer with four draw controls and added two ground balls and a caused turnover. Haleigh Wurzel tallied a season-high three caused turnovers as well as six ground balls to lead Mercer, while also making 16 saves for the Bears.
Nova Ward and Coyne tied for second on the team with four ground balls each, while Tori Blakeman finished second with two caused turnovers.
The Paladins (7-3, 2-0 A-Sun) came out strong, scoring the first four goals of the game, before Zeltwanger found the back of the net with 22:09 left in the first half to make it 4-1. After another pair of Furman goals, Mercer (3-6, 0-2 A-Sun) scored the final three goals of the period to cut Furman's lead to 6-4 entering halftime.
The second stanza started much like the first, as Furman scored three quick goals and extended its lead to 9-4 with 25:56 on the clock. The Bears rallied again, with two goals from Leone and one from Coyne to come within three, 10-7, with 13:54 to go. After a six minute scoring drought for both teams, Furman scored five goals in the final 7:46 of the game to keep the Bears at bay.
The Bears will return to Macon to host Old Dominion on Thursday, April 2 at 4 p.m.
