TOLEDO, OHIO – The Mercer University men's golf team shot a 309 on the final day of the Inverness Intercollegiate, wrapping up the two-day event in 11th place with a total score of 909.

MERCER SPOTLIGHT
Heinicka saved his best 18 holes of the year for Tuesday's finale, firing a team-best 1-over 72 to climb into 21st place. The senior carded three birdies in the final round, while climbing 18 spots on the leaderboard with a three-round score of 224.
THE BEARS IN THE TEAM STANDINGS
Mercer dropped four spots in the team standings after firing a 25-over 309 on the final day of action. Nationally-recognized California won the team title with a three-round tally of 877, while ETSU and Michigan rounded out the top three.
HOLE OF THE DAY
Heinicka had Mercer's hole of the day this afternoon on No. 17. The senior made a long putt from off the green to card a birdie and help carry him to a season-best 72.
MERCER NOTABLES
- Mercer posted a stroke average of 4.97 on par-5 holes, while finishing with averages of 3.60 and 4.31 on par-3 and par-4 holes.
- As a team, the Bears tallied nine birdies on the afternoon with seven of those coming on par-4 holes. Mercer finished the tournament with 30 birdies, behind a team-high nine from Deogun.
- Mercer had its worst round of the year on Tuesday, as the Bears came into the day with a 288.2 stroke average as a team.
- Heinicka's 21st place finish is his best since placing 20th at the 2012 Ram Masters Invitational, where he shot three-round score of 218.
- Deogun, Ren and Smothers fell short in their bid for back-to-back top-10 finishes, as the trio combined for 37 birdies at the Golfweek Program Challenge to help lead the Bears to a second place finish earlier this month.
