Men's Tennis Falls to Southern Illinois

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Mercer University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 match to Southern Illinois on Sunday afternoon in Knoxville, Tenn.
"We played not to lose today, Southern Illinois played to win and that was why we got rocked," said Head Coach Eric Hayes. "It's a privilege to have this opportunity to play and every time we take the court, there must be a sense of urgency. We had that yesterday, but today we simply did not have that."
Despite the loss, there were some positive notes, as Arnav Mohanty and Arsav Mohanty defeated the nationally-ranked doubles tandem of Jonny Rigby and Michal Kianicka. Rigby and Kianicka entered the match ranked 41st nationally among doubles pairings.
Arsav Mohanty also won his singles match, defeating Thomas Kyle in two sets, 7-5, 7-5.
The Bears will wrap up their opening weekend of play against No. 44 Tennessee on Monday, Jan. 18 in Knoxville, Tenn.
