2016 SOCON CHAMPIONSHIPS MEN'S 8K RESULTS || PHOTO GALLERY

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Sophomore Ahmed Jama placed 37th overall with a time of 25 minutes and 33.72 seconds to lead the Mercer men in the 8K event at the Southern Conference Championships on Saturday morning.

The race, which was held at Camp Jordan in Chattanooga, featured all 10 SoCon men's cross country programs. Mercer finished 10th in the team rankings with a total time of 2:13:01.89 while Furman captured its fourth consecutive team SoCon Championship with a time of 1:59:29.68. Samford, ETSU, Chattanooga and VMI rounded out the top five team finishes.

Jama ran his second-best 8K time of the year with the 25:33.72 finish. Saturday also marked the return of junior Cameron Gatt, who has been recovering from an injury all fall. Gatt finished with Mercer's second-best time, 26:30.98, to finish 63rd overall.

Seven other Bears placed in the event: Mark Brannen (26:50.37); Michael Rowlands (26:53.54); Mac Power (27:13.28); Sam Gelabert (27:28.92); Abraham Balawi (27:56.32); Justin Hanson (28:00.79) and Marc Reiser (28:06.65).

Furman finished with four of the top six individual finishers, including winner Frank Lara (23:16.44) and runner-up Josh Brickell (23:25.34).
