
Seven Bears Set for NCAA Cross Country Regionals

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mercer will be represented by six women and one man at the 2016 NCAA Cross Country South Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 11 at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

Anna Grzeszczak, Victoria Rogers, Bethanie Bailey, Courtney Czerniak, McKaylin Darsey and Kimmie Whiting will compete for the Bears in the women's race while Michael Rowlands will serve as the lone runner in the men's contest.

The event, which is hosted by Florida State, will feature student-athletes from 36 women's teams and 31 men's teams. Mercer's women will compete in the 6,000-meter championship race at 8:30 a.m. (ET) while Rowlands will start the men's 10,000-meter at 9:30 a.m.

All seven Bears competing in the regionals also placed in the SoCon Championships two weeks ago in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Rowlands finished with the fourth-best time among Mercer men with a time of 26 minutes and 53.54 seconds in the 8K while Grzeszczak set a personal record of 18:37.53 in the 5K.

Fellow SoCon programs Chattanooga, ETSU and Samford will join Mercer at the regionals. The top two teams for each gender and the top four individuals not on those teams will automatically qualify for the Nov. 19 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Admission is free to attend the event. An awards presentation will take place at the conclusion of both races and results will be available at MercerBears.com afterward.
