
Women's Lacrosse Falls To Coastal Carolina, 8-5

CONWAY, S.C. – A second-half rally from Coastal Carolina proved to be too much for the Mercer University women's lacrosse team as the Bears fell 8-5 to Coastal Carolina on Friday afternoon. Erica Coyne and Lindsey Zeltwanger led Mercer with two goals each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer took an early 1-0 lead, scoring just 1:39 into the game as Lindsey Zeltwanger fired first for the Bears. Coastal Carolina tied the score, 1-1, less than seven minutes later. Erica Coyne, assisted by Kate Christian, put Mercer back up, 2-1, with 17:35 left in the first half. Coastal Carolina took its first lead of the game after scoring back-to-back goals to take a 3-2 lead with 9:20 remaining in the half. With seven seconds on the clock, Coyne scored again to tie the score for a third time, 3-3, just before intermission.
The Bears came out hot in the second half, scoring the first two goals to go up 5-3 with 23:55 on the clock. Kelly Hagerty scored first for Mercer on a free-position shot and Zeltwanger scored her second goal of the game a few minutes later. Coastal Carolina scored the final five goals of the game, re-gaining and holding onto the lead for an 8-5 win.

Coastal Carolina led Mercer in shots, 24-15, which includes a 14-5 margin in the second half.
