
Women's Lacrosse Falls to Detroit, 14-11

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University women's lacrosse team fell behind in the first half and was unable to mend the gap in the second half, ultimately losing 14-11 to Detroit on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Detroit scored the first two goals for the game, but Mercer answered with two goals of their own to knot the score, 2-2, with 22:03 left in the first half. The Titans added another pair of goals before Meghan Segreti found the back of the net and slowed Detroit's momentum down, moving the score to 4-3. Detroit used a 5-1 run lasting 11:16 to take a 9-4 lead with 6:32 remaining in the period. Lindsey Zeltwanger scored with 4:00 on the clock, notching her 100th career point and making it 9-5. Detroit scored with 24 seconds left in the half, but Kelly Hagerty answered for Mercer with five seconds on the clock to keep the Titans' lead at four, 10-6, at the half.
The Bears opened the second half with a pair of goals, which cut the Titans' lead to 10-8 with 21:34 to play. After another goal for each team, Detroit added a pair of unanswered goals to move its lead to 13-9 with 14:18 remaining. Mercer scored two of the final three goals, moving the score to 14-11, but was unable to close the gap any farther in the final minutes.
NOTABLES
- Lindsey Zeltwanger led Mercer with seven points off three goals and a season-high four assists. She also had a team-high four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Zeltwanger also became the first player in program history to score 100 points in her career.
- Meghan Segreti scored a career-high three goals and added a season-high-tying four ground balls.
- Kate Christian tallied two goals, an assist and a career-high seven ground balls.
- Erica Coyne notched a goal and three ground balls.
- Kelly Hagerty scored a goal and picked up a career-high-tying four ground balls.
- Haleigh Brooks recorded a goal, two ground balls and a draw control.
- Anna Schneeberger grabbed a career-high-tying two draw controls and Taylor Horner caused a turnover for the Bears.
- Audrey Robertson registered a career-high-tying four ground balls, while Audrey Allen had two ground balls, a career-high-tying two caused turnovers and a draw control.
- Haleigh Wurzel made 11 saves and grabbed three ground balls.
- Detroit narrowly outshot Mercer, 33-32, and Mercer grabbed more ground balls, 29-28.
- The Titans won the draw control battle, 18-9.
RECORDS UPDATE
Mercer moves to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in Atlantic Sun play, while Detroit is now 8-6 on the season and 3-2 in league games.
