
Women's Lacrosse Tops CMU, Earns Spot in Atlantic Sun Tournament

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University women's lacrosse team dominated the second half to secure an 11-7 victory over Central Michigan on Sunday. With the win, Mercer also clinched a spot in the Atlantic Sun Championship Field, which includes six of the league's nine teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams went back and forth for the first 12:20 of the game, but Central Michigan netted a pair of goals in 1:30 to take a 4-2 lead with 15:28 left in the first half. Kelly Hagerty scored on a free-position shot for the Bears, but another couple of goals for the Chippewas gave CMU a 6-3 advantage at halftime.
Mercer opened the second half with back-to-back goals from Erica Coyne in less than 30 seconds, cutting Central Michigan's lead to 6-5 with 26:09 on the clock. CMU scored again to stretch its advantage to 7-5 with 22:04 to play. After over seven minutes without a goal, Meghan Segreti found the back of the net twice to tie the game, 7-7, with 13:30 remaining. Kate Leone gave Mercer its first lead of the game when she scored off an assist from Lindsey Zeltwanger with 7:55 left. The Bears added three more goals in the final four minutes of the game, moving the final score to 11-7.

- Erica Coyne led Mercer with three goals and added two draw controls and a ground ball.
- Lindsey Zeltwanger tallied a team-high four points off one goal and three assists, while grabbing two ground balls.
- Kate Christian notched a goal, two assists and two ground balls for the Bears.
- Kelly Hagerty had two goals, a career-high two draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Meghan Segreti also scored a pair of goals for Mercer and had four draw controls and a ground ball. Segreti now has 100 career draw controls and is the first Mercer player to meet that milestone in the program's two year history.
- Kate Leone added a goal and a ground ball, while Haleigh Brooks had a goal and two ground balls.
- Audrey Allen grabbed a career-high four ground balls and a career-high-tying two caused turnovers.
- Katie Brueske had three ground balls, and Taylor Horner notched a ground ball and a caused turnover.
- Anna Schneeberger tallied a career-high-tying two draw controls and two ground balls, and Audrey Robertson had two ground balls.
- Haleigh Wurzel made nine saves and grabbed four ground balls for Mercer.
- Mercer outscored Central Michigan, 8-1, in the second half.
- The shots were even for Mercer and CMU at 23-23.
- Mercer won the draw control battle, 13-7, which included an 8-2 margin in the second half.
- The Bears also picked up more ground balls, 27-26.
RECORDS UPDATE
Mercer moves to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in Atlantic Sun play, while Central Michigan is now 5-9 on the season and 1-5 in league games.

Mercer will close out the regular season on Saturday at 12 p.m. when the Bears take on Furman in Greenville, S.C.
