MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University women's lacrosse team was defeated by the defending Atlantic Sun champions, Jacksonville, 20-2 on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacksonville got a slow start as the Mercer defense kept the Dolphins from dominating early in the game, holding Jacksonville to just four goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. Kate Christian fired a pass from just beside the goal to Erica Coyne, who was cutting through the fan, and Coyne scored to put Mercer on the board, 4-1, with 12:25 left in the first half. Jacksonville answered with eight goals to close out the first half and take a 12-1 lead at intermission.
The Bears scored quickly to start the second half, as Kelly Hagerty caused a turnover just after Jacksonville got the draw control, scooped up the ground ball and scored on a fast break, moving the score to 12-2 just 16 seconds into the half. Mercer was unable to score for the remainder of the game and the Dolphins added another eight goals to stretch their lead to 20-2.
