MACON, Ga. – After leading the Mercer University Softball team to two wins and a run to the Southern Conference Tournament semifinals May 11-13, sophomore pitcher Megan Bilgri was named to the All-Tournament Team on Saturday, May 14.
Bilgri tossed 26 innings and three complete games in a three-day period while starting all four of the Bears' SoCon Tournament contests. She issued only three walks and recorded seven strikeouts, all coming in the Bears' 5-2 and 7-4 wins over Furman and Chattanooga.
The sophomore's biggest performance, arguably, came in the tournament opener against Furman, in which she tossed all nine frames of an extra-inning thriller against the Paladins. She allowed eight hits, but only four after the fourth inning as Mercer rallied for the victory.
Bilgri threw seven innings in the win over Chattanooga on Thursday, May 12, to help Mercer to the semifinals against No. 1 seed and eventual league champion, Samford. She was highly effective against the Bulldogs, but took the loss as Mercer couldn't muster any offensive production to back her 5-hit complete-game outing. In the loser's bracket semifinal, Bilgri tossed only three innings against Furman before being relieved.
Her 26 innings pitched trail only Kirsten Stevens' 33.2 and 26.2 innings in 2015 and 2014, respectively, for the most postseason innings in a single season over the last six years.
The Naperville, Ill. native led Mercer in innings pitched (112.0), wins (eight), appearances (29), games started (16), complete games (10) and shutouts (two) this season. She'll be one of five Mercer pitchers who will return next season.
