MACON, Ga. – Mercer has a busy weekend ahead as the women's tennis team will play four matches in three days. The Bears will open the weekend with a doubleheader at No. 11 Auburn before returning to Macon to take on Alabama State and Savannah State on Sunday.
Â
Mercer opened the season with a 4-0 win over South Carolina State on Feb. 4 and has had a two week break since then. The Bears also faced Auburn in a doubleheader last season, falling to the Tigers in both matches. Mercer did not face Georgia Southwestern, Alabama State or Savannah State last season.
Auburn has already seen a lot of action this season, tallying an 11-1 record. The Tigers' lone loss was to No. 7 Ohio State and the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Auburn is 2-1 against ranked teams this season.
Â
Alabama State has started the season at 3-3 and has won each of its last two matches. The Hornets have beaten Savannah State, Alabama A&M and Jacksonville State and recorded losses to Alabama, Georgia Southern and Presbyterian. Before coming to Macon, Alabama State will take on Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Savannah State is 0-5 on the season and has lost to two Southern Conference teams, Western Carolina (0-7) and Wofford (0-6). The Lady Tigers, who have just five players on the roster, have yet to win a singles or doubles match this season. Savannah State will host Charleston Southern on Thursday before heading to Macon on Sunday.
