Solid Singles Play Pushes Bears Past Rattlers

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mercer snapped it's two-match losing skid with a convincing 6-1 win over Florida A&M on Tuesday in Tallahassee.

Mercer's lone misstep on the day came in doubles play as Florida A&M won at flights one and three to take the point and a 1-0 lead.

The Bears made quick work of the Rattlers in singles play, however, winning all six matches in straight sets. Haley Powell, Marie Mottet, Anna Sovic and Katia Stavroulaki all won their singles matches 6-1, 6-0, with Stavroulaki providing the win that clinched the match for Mercer.

Katie Sidor added a 6-2, 6-0 win at flight three and Grace Korta followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win at flight two to wrap up the match.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Anna Sovic was one of two players to win both her singles and doubles match. Along with Katie Sidor, she won at doubles, 6-2, and went on to win at flight six in singles, 6-1, 6-0. Sovic was one of four Mercer players who won their singles matches with a score of 6-1, 6-0.

"The team did a good job in singles after a horrific start in doubles. You must bring it every single day against every opponent or you will be defeated physically and mentally. Conference play starts Saturday and we better bring it."

Mercer starts Southern Conference play on Saturday, March 4 when the Bears host Western Carolina at 11 a.m. at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
