Bears Blow Past Chippewas, 15-8

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Meghan Segreti scored five goals and Eva Thorn added three as the duo led Mercer's scoring on Friday afternoon when the Bears defeated Central Michigan, 15-8, and opened ASUN play with a win.

Lindsey Zeltwanger dished out a game-high five assists and notched a career-high five caused turnovers on the day. A total of six Bears scored in the win as Mercer opened conference play with a strong performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Erica Coyne scored first, putting Mercer on the board within the first two minutes of play. Jocelyne Lemay, who led CMU with five goals, scored her first of the day to knot the score, 1-1. Nine minutes later, Segreti found the back of the net to put Mercer up 2-1 and spark a 3-0 run for the Bears. During the run, Segreti added a second goal and Kate Leone scored as Mercer took a 4-1 lead and carried the advantage into halftime.

Coyne started the scoring in the second half as well, once again hitting the back of the net within the first two minutes of the period. After another goal from Lemay to bring the score to 5-2, the Bears went on a 6-0 run lasting less than nine minutes and stretching Mercer's lead to 11-2. The Chippewas stopped Mercer's scoring spree and added four unanswered goals of their own to cut the Bears' lead to 11-6 with 11:29 left in the game.

With 11:11 on the clock, Thorn scored her first goal of the game and proceeded to add another two in less than two minutes, giving the freshman a hat trick and Mercer a 14-6 lead. Segreti added another goal before CMU scored two more to move the final score to 15-8.

Audrey Robertson tied her career highs of two goals, two points and five ground balls while also tallying four caused turnovers.
